Born in Yongin, Gyunggi Province in 1964, Cheon Myeong-kwan entered the world of screenwriting by chance. He is credited for the scripts of Man with a Gun [Chongjabi], A Great Chinese Restaurant [Bukkyeong banjeom] and The Man Next Door [Yeopjib namja]. He made his literary debut in 2003 winning the Munhak Dongne New Writer’s Award for his short story “Frank and I,” and went on to win the Munhak Dongne Literary Award the next year for his novel Whale. He is the author of the short story collections Cheerful Maid Marisa and The Laborer Running with Turkey and the novels Modern Family and My Uncle, Bruce Lee. His latest novel, It’s a Man’s World, is due to be published in September 2016.
