Kim Kyung-uk was born in Gwangju in 1971. He attended Seoul National University, obtaining a degree in English literature. He made his literary debut in 1993 winning the Writer’s World New Writer’s Award with the novella “Outsider.” He is the recipient of the 37th Hankook Ilbo Literary Award for his short story “Is Leslie Cheung Really Dead?” (2004), the 53rd Hyundae Literary Award for his short story “99%” (2008), the 40th Dongin Literary Award for his short story collection Risky Reading, the 3rd Kim Seungok Literary Award for his short story collection Young Hearts Never Grow (2015), and the 40th Yi Sang Literary Award for his short story “Heaven’s Door” (2016). He is the author of the short story collections Who Killed Kurt Cobain? (2003), Is Leslie Cheung Really Dead? (2005), and God has no Grandchildren (2011), and the novels The Golden Apple (2002), Kingdom of a Thousand Years (2007), Like a Fairy Tale (2010), What is Baseball (2013), and The Hour Between Dog and Wolf (2016).
